Ode to Spring!, by Cynthia Dartley, Publisher/Editor

Finally, I can go outside an attend to my spray paint projects.  Coffee cans, hot cocoa tins and other saved items getting a makeover this weekend.  And with all of those wonderful spray paint colors to choose from - celedon green, fuscia, and blues - you can coordinate pops of bright colored pencil holders throughout the house in the kitchen, bedrooms even the playroom.   Photos  and how to in the next MK edition.

As for this week, celebrate Spring and get outside with the kids!  come home to an easy to assemble Spring salad or pasta smothered in mother natures best herbs with an easy to make Spring Vinegairette in the Recipes section.

Signs of Spring Hike at Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens Apr 20, 2013 @ 10:00 a.m. April is a great time to head out to our wetland areas and look for Todd DuPont’s favorite plant Skunk Cabbage! We will meet in the Silver Educational Center at 10:00 a.m. and then head straight out into out forest and talk about what nature does to wake up from its winter slumber.  Reservations suggested, members $5 and non-members $10.

Recipes & Crafts

Spring Vinegairette

Using a glass jar, put all ingredients into jar, secure lid and shake to combine.  Store in fridge for 1 week, use e when needed. I used this vinegairette on salads, mixed into pasta, topped veggies like steamed brocolli and  as a marinade for steak, chicken and tofu!

Here's a simple 1,2,3 step recipe as a base.  Add salt, pepper to taste.

1.  Choose a good handfulll of mixed herbs (example: rosemary, thyme, cilantro, basil and more!), chopped into fine pieces
2.  Add a 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
3.  Add 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil.
